Words cannot hold the inside of our hearts,
Unasked for feelings seep between the gaps.
What is left unsaid bursts out in a flood
Engulfs the narrow confines of my text.
Inadequate, I know, but all we have.
Blindly groping in the darkness of life,
Stumbling to simply say: “I miss you”.
I am left with memories of the day,
Sheltering in a dusty bookshop from the rain,
Others’ words seeped from the printed page.
Friendship’s fallible, fragile frontline falls,
Words cannot hold the inside of our hearts.
